Q: I keep getting a message " windows was unable to install your unknown device".  The IR link is black and I’m using window 7 professional on 64 bit operating system.

A. The black IR Link will not work with any version of Windows after Windows XP. The Blue IR Link will work with Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10. There was no way for Honeywell to create a driver compatible with later versions of Windows for the black IR Link so they came out with the blue one to get around that. You will need a new cable.
