Importing Data Into Fleet Manager II
As we have just seen, there is a possibility to recover lost data from your MMC/SD card (M5-MMC) and you are also able to format the card via deleting a log file and using your detector. However, you are also able to import data from the logs to your Fleet Manager II software. However, there are some preliminary requirements for your computer for this to be possible. You will need to support a 500 MHz Pentium hard drive, 100 MB of free memory, a USB port and you will be required to use Windows XP or higher as your current operating system. So, let us now look at a handful of options you will have in relation to importing data.
From Micro Dock II to Fleet Manager II
Note that if you are using this method, you will also require to understand the process from the MicroDock II end. Thus, refer to its owner's manual for a full description of the process.
Importing to Fleet Manager II with the use of a Card Reader
This is a common procedure and is used when you want to import information from the detector to Fleet Manager II. This is actually recommended, for as we have seen in the last section, you will otherwise run the risk of losing what can potentially be a sensitive amount of data.
First, deactivate your detector. Remove the back latch (M5-BL-1) and after, take out the battery pack. Take out the MMC/SD card. You can refer to figure 12 and figure 1 in your owner's manual to see how this is performed. Connect your card reader to the USB port that is found on your computer. Insert the card into the port; making certain that the pins on the card are facing down (the computer will not read the card otherwise).
Next, you will need to open the Fleet Manager II software on your computer. Click on start, all programs, BW Technologies, Fleet Manager II and finally BW Technologies Fleet Manager II. You will then go to the top task bar and select the help option. Click on the choice “User Manual” from here. Finally, refer to the section entitled “Importing Data into Fleet Manager II”. You will be provided with a step by step process to expedite the importation.
Viewing Data Log Files in Spreadsheet Format
You will also have the option to view all of the information that your unit collects in the form of an easy to interpret spreadsheet. This can be quite useful when comparing data from multiple devices or if you need to analyze a particular metric quickly. Thankfully, most spreadsheet applications will support this software. Some of the most common will be Microsoft Excel, Quattro Pro, Lotus 1-2-3 and Microsoft Word.
In the next section, we will look at the steps that are required to download and view this data into a spreadsheet format. Once again, importing data is an excellent way to safeguard valuable data. You can refer to pages 67 and 68 of your owner's manual for a more in-depth description of this process.
