Troubleshooting Startup Features

Sometimes the GasAlertQuattro will experience problems during startup. For a full explanation with graphical descriptions, refer to page 40 of the owner’s manual. We will go over a few of the most common issues here.

Self-Test During Startup Fails

This is a built-in safety mechanism for the monitor. The sensor self-test is designed to detect a sensor that may be faulty or otherwise not functioning properly. The monitor will tell you which sensor fails the self-test with an "X" in a check box. The most common reason for this error is a dead sensor and you should first try a replacement. For the correct part numbers on sensors for the GasAlertQuattro, visit the Replacement Sensors solution article.

The Last Calibration has Failed

If the last calibration failed, the monitor will tell you during the startup process on the screen. To clear this error, you will need to calibrate the monitor using the steps described in previous articles or in the owner's manual. If you see “Cal IR Lock” on the monitor, it means that an infrared device needs to be used to complete the calibration. The IR link (GA-USB1-IR) or the MicroDock II should be used if this feature is turned on.

Force Calibration

This is a safety feature that will require the user to calibrate the device every time it is turned on. Start the calibration process by holding the pushbutton for about 7 seconds. Page 10 illustrates the calibration procedure.

The Failure of All Sensors

If all sensors of the GasAlertQuattro fail, the monitor will deactivate. This can be caused by particulates or poisons that have gotten into the system. Alcohol and silicon are two of the most common causes. In some cases, the machine will rectify itself after about an hour. It should be powered down and removed from the area during this time. If this does not solve the problem, the sensors will most likely need to be replaced.

Bump Test Failure

If the previous bump test failed, a notification will be seen on the display screen. Your monitor will still run if the error is cleared with the pushbutton, but it will remind you every time it is turned on that a new bump test is required. This error can only be removed by running a bump test on the MicroDockII station.

Overdue Notifications

You will be notified when either a bump test or a calibration is overdue. If the FORCE TEST option is enabled, the unit will not be able to be used until these tests are completed. If a calibration is required, perform the procedures for calibrating the detector found on page 10. For a bump test, refer to page 12 for detailed instructions in this matter.

It is highly recommended to test the sensors at the beginning of each day before the detector will be exposed to harmful gases.
