Removing the Coin Cell and Replacing the Sensors

Inside of the GasAlertQuattro is a device known as a coin cell. This item is used to provide power to the real-time clock. While it is important to understand how removing this piece of equipment is essential, please note that the following steps should only be performed by a qualified technician to assure reliability and that no damage is done to the detector. A detailed description of the entire process can be found in the owner’s manual beginning on page 25.

Steps to Remove the Cell

Start off by shutting down the monitor. After the unit has powered down, follow these steps:

  • Make certain that the battery pack has already been removed.
  • Remove the 6 screws from the back of the monitor and set them aside. Pull the front cover off.
  • After the front of the unit is removed, you will see two more screws on the primary PCB (QT-PCB-K1). Remove these as well.
  • Gently remove the whole PC board.
  • You will see that the coin cell is attached to the detector by four separate leads. Clip each lead to be able to remove the entire cell at once. Recall that it is important during this process to not touch one of the leads against another one. Dispose the cell according to local statutes.

Replacing a Sensor

Remember that only sensors approved for the GasAlertQuattro should be used and as with any other task, this process should be performed in a safe environment. A device that is configured to detect less than four gases may have a false sensor in one of the four interior locations.

  • Deactivate the detector
  • Remove the six screws(as described previously)
  • Take the front shell off and remove the old sensors.
  • Place the new sensors in their relative locations and make sure that no moisture or debris are present on the sealing surfaces of both shells.
  • Close the shells together and replace the six screws that were removed.
  • The new sensors need to be calibrated before the detector is safe to use. Power the machine back on and begin the calibration process that can be found on page 10 of the owner’s manual.
