Quick Guide to Recharging the Battery Pack or Changing the Alkaline Batteries
Before we describe the act of recharging the batteries for your GasAlertQuattro, it is first necessary to review some of the most important safety considerations that need to be constantly remembered. These will help to reduce the chances of personal injury while simultaneously helping to protect the detector itself from damage.
Never attempt to recharge the detector in an environment that contains hazardous gas because accidental ignition may occur. Only use the charger that has been supplied with the unit. The detector should only be charged in an environment that is between 32 and 104 degrees F (0 to 40 C).
The unit should be immediately charged after the “low battery” signal is displayed as well as after each workday has been completed. The charger should be free of moisture and any foreign material. This is especially important to the end connectors.
Avoid using the charger or another power supply for more than twenty-four hours during any given time period. Instead, you should power cycle the detector on and off (by depressing the Pushbutton on the front of the detector until the entire unit has shut down).
How to Charge the Detector
Now, let us look at a step-by-step process to recharge the batteries. As with all of these processes, this is but a brief overview. A more detailed explanation can be found on pages 21 and 22 of the owner’s manual.
- First, turn off the monitor by holding the pushbutton
- Second, connect the charging adapter (GA-PA-1-NA) to the port on the reverse and the bottom of the detector.
- Remember that if the battery is severely drained it may take as long as six hours to recover and be fully charged.
Following these simple instructions will help increase the longevity of the rechargeable batteries as well as make certain that the detector will function properly. Failure to follow these steps can place the detector as well as the user in danger; particularly in hostile and/or hazardous environments.
How to Replace the Alkaline Batteries
When your monitor is turned off, you can use the following steps to change the alkaline batteries:
- Loosen the battery latch and remove the pack
- Lift the small bar using the felt strip
- Pull up on the bar to eject the batteries
- Put the metal bar back down and secure it (this part is very important because if it is not snapped in properly it can cause damage to the circuit board and affect the display)
- Insert the new batteries positive end first and snap them into place
- Put the battery pack back on the detector and power it back up
You should always use Energizer or Duracell batteries with this monitor. Battery leaks are more common among other brands and are generally not covered by the warranty.
