A Look at General Maintenance Recommendations
Performance and safety features of the GasAlertQuattro will depend on proper and regular maintenance of the device. As mentioned previously, regular bump tests and calibrations need to be performed. For quality assurance purposes, a log should be kept of this schedule to make certain that no events are missed. Any alarm events should be similarly documented. Finally, never forget to clean the device with a damp cloth and avoid using any of the chemical agents that were mentioned in the safety section (refer to page 8 of the manual for a more detailed list of contaminants).
Batteries
Proper functioning of the monitor will depend on battery power. Even with a rechargeable battery (QT-BAT-R01), its power supply will decrease by approximately 20% after constant use for a period of two years.
One important feature is the retaining screw on the reverse of the detector. According to Canadian, American and European laws, this screw must be locked in place at all times to prevent the accidental opening of the pack during use.
Removing the Battery Pack
One of the advantages of the GasAlertQuattro is that a specifically designed screwdriver is included with the unit upon shipment. The screwdriver can be changed from a Phillips head to a hex head by loosening the brass nut. The hexagonal head on the screwdriver will be required to loosen and tighten the screw holding the battery pack. It only will need to be turned one or two times to lock and unlock the battery pack and only 3 to 4 pounds of torque should be used. The screw should not be over-tightened.
Replacing the Battery Pack
You should turn the monitor off before changing the batteries. Turn the hex head screw a few times to the left to loosen it and then press up on the black latch that holds the battery in place. Then you can take off the alkaline or rechargeable battery pack. If you are swapping a rechargeable pack, just put the new one in and screw the latch back down. If you are using the alkaline battery pack, pull up on the bar to pop out the batteries. Then you can insert new batteries, return the bar to its original position, and replace the battery pack in the back of the monitor.
A more detailed explanation of these steps and visual aids can be found in the owner’s manual. Never perform these operations in any hazardous environment that is sensitive to the accidental discharge of electricity.
